ALTERNATIVE PLACEMENT METHODS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Florida SB 366 amended multiple Florida statutes in 2021 to expand the mechanisms institutions may use to assess readiness for college-level work. The Florida Student Success Center (center) launched FPI 2.0: Alternative Placement Methods Professional Development Program in summer 2022. The center provided technical assistance and support to a cohort of participating institutions planning to implement alternative methods for placement purposes.
The program objectives were:

•Understand the research base and national movement behind alternative methods
•Deeply understand the Florida policy and the institutional opportunities within
•Craft a shared vision for alternative methods at their institution
•Learn principles for creating equitable and effective policy, and the data that drives it
•Develop a plan to answer key questions related to an alternative methods policy
•Understand the need for intentional implementation planning
•Learn and use principles for effective stakeholder engagement that will support sustainable implementation
