The Florida Student Success Center is launching a new Florida Pathways Institute open to all Florida public (and district) postsecondary institutions and their partner school district(s). The purpose of the Workforce Education Pathways (institute) is to aid in shaping the Florida Department of Education’s approach towards scaling pathways to dramatically boost completion and improving the economic mobility of graduates through workforce education. The Florida Student Success Center will launch a series of Regional Roundtables centered on the topic of Workforce Education Pathways beginning fall 2024 and culminating spring 2025, to address the following primary objectives:

  • Develop recommendations for policies and practice to improve Florida’s education and workforce development outcomes, ensuring institutions meet current and future economic needs in key focus areas: healthcare, STEM teacher preparation, business (management, marketing, finance), information technology, or manufacturing/logistics/construction.

  • Leverage business insights to shape education and training policies, enhancing academic and post-credential student support and expanding work-based learning opportunities.

  • Implement strategies to close skills gaps, deliver essential education and workforce training, and guide the Florida Student Success Center in its collaboration with colleges. â€‹

At the culmination of the institute, recommendations, challenges, and best practices gathered during each regional roundtable will be shared in a final report that will inform the student success center on how best to achieve the goal of making Florida the number one state in the nation for workforce education by 2030. Participation in the institute will span a period of one year and cohort teams consisting of secondary and postsecondary representatives will engage in the following activities:

  • Convene regionally to learn and discuss the challenges each area faces to meet demand needs and address critical job shortages.

  • Scale workforce education pathways regionally, but also provide insights on how to improve student outcomes and address workforce needs through guided workplans.

  • The institute culminates with a final report that will present collective findings.
